dj musician PRODUCER artist
Beginning life's journey just outside New Orleans Louisiana, surrounded by the funkiest of jazz, the deepest of blues, and the hardest of rock, Mavi Mendoza developed a love for music with emotion at a very early age. His earliest musical memory was when he unwrapped a saxophone he had received at the age of four and his discovery of Boston's "More Than a Feeling", which became his all time favorite song and forged his love for the sound of the electric guitar. It wasn't long after this love affair began that he found himself immersed in a world of sound with a burning desire to express his feelings sonically.
At the age of fourteen, after developing a deep appreciation for all music and a special place in his heart for heavy metal, he was taken to an afterhours club by some older friends and heard techno for the first time. Around this time, Trent Reznor (NIN) released "Pretty Hate Machine" and after learning his story and how he came to be, Mavi knew he could do this himself, as Reznor did. This was the spark that lit his imagination on fire.
Finding his way into the world of djing, Mavi witnessed how the energy of powerful music moved people and amped up audiences all over the world. During that time he was fortunate enough to share the stage with a few of the biggest DJ's in the world, to include Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold, Bad Boy Bill and Paul Van Dyke. After his endeavor as dj MENDOZA had begun he quickly became weary of playing music created by other producers and wanted to use his formal education in music along with an extremely vivid imagination of what he heard in his head to share with others who love this particular sound. That was the doorway which led to the eventual development of wigglefist.
Over the years Mavi experimented with many genres to include rock, industrial, hip/hop, pop, and the intelligent trance sound. In the beginning it was a self education from going about the process of learning how to record, produce, mix, engineer... basically making things sound really really bad before he started to hone in his skills. Once he had the ability to get what he heard in his head through his fingertips and out of the speakers he formed an ambiguous production team working with various artists releasing tracks under the name ANGLE OF ATTACK Most notably, his remix of Christina Novelli's "ARMOUR"
For the past decade he's been living in Miami Florida, a dance music and party mecca... quite easily one of the most influential cities in the world. Having allowed some of the newer sounds of today to enter his creations, combined with a formal music education from his earlier years, he attempts to stay within the lines of what hooked him into this world but ventures out as far as he can into the realm of sonic possibilities. No rules, right? His recent work has gravitated towards the edm/pop genres, focusing on writing songs that will engage the mind and touch the souls within the people that hear them. Time will ultimately tell as to what he and wigglefist will be known as and recognized for... ...stay wiggly!
